Sundarbans Photography Tour

A Mentored Journey into the World’s Largest Mangrove Wilderness

18–21 September 2026 · 4 Days, 3 Nights · Small Group ·
Mentored by Swaroop Singha Roy

Overview

The Sundarbans is unlike anywhere else on Earth — a vast, tide-carved labyrinth of mangrove forest straddling the India-Bangladesh border, where the line between land and water dissolves twice a day. It is the only mangrove forest in the world known to host tigers, and that single fact shapes everything about this landscape: the silence is deliberate, the stillness is alert, and every creek could be hiding something extraordinary. Beyond the Royal Bengal Tiger, the Sundarbans is a living theatre for saltwater crocodiles, spotted deer, fishing cats, water monitors, and an astonishing range of resident and migratory birds — kingfishers, eagles, storks, and owls among them — all moving through a forest that breathes with the rhythm of the tides.

For a photographer, this is a rare kind of canvas. Light filters differently through mangrove canopy. Reflections double the frame. And the boat itself becomes your hide, your vantage point, your quiet approach into a world that rewards patience over pursuit.

This is where The Wisehoot takes you next.

Our Sundarbans Photography Tour is a small-group, mentorship-led expedition designed for photographers who want to go beyond simply capturing the forest — we want you to understand it. Over four days aboard an exclusive boat built for photography, you’ll be guided by naturalists who read the forest’s signs and mentored in the field by Canon India Explorer Swaroop Singha Roy, refining not just your technical craft but your eye for the story within the frame. Small groups mean more time, more attention, and more of the forest to yourself.

The Itinerary

Day 1 — Into the Delta

Your journey begins before sunrise, with an early pickup from Kolkata and a scenic transfer to Godkhali, the gateway to the Sundarbans. From here, the roads end and the waterways begin — you’ll board your boat and set off into the delta as the forest safari gets underway. Breakfast and lunch are served right on the water, keeping you out in the field as long as possible. As the safari winds down around 5 PM, you’ll head to the hotel to check in and settle in, followed by an evening photography discussion to review the day’s frames and set intentions for tomorrow, before dinner and rest.

Day 2 — First Full Day on the Water

An early departure gets you back on the boat as the forest wakes up — this is a full day out on safari, chasing light and movement through the creeks and channels, with breakfast and lunch served on board so nothing interrupts the pursuit. As the safari ends around 5 PM, the day isn’t quite done: you’ll head out for night birding, followed by an evening photography discussion before dinner at the hotel.

Day 3 — Deeper into the Wild

Another full day on the water, following the tides deeper into tiger territory and the quieter corners of the forest where sightings often unfold slowly. Breakfast and lunch on the boat keep the momentum going through the day. With the safari wrapping up by 5 PM, the evening again brings night birding and a photography discussion — a chance to work through your best frames of the trip so far — before dinner and rest.

Day 4 — Last Light and Departure

An early checkout and one final morning on the boat for your last safari of the trip, savoring every remaining hour on the water. With breakfast and lunch served on board, you’ll make your way back to Godkhali, followed by the transfer back to Kolkata.
