Overview
September finds Tadoba in a state few photographers ever witness. The core zones lie closed for the monsoon, left to themselves, while the buffer belt — the reserve’s quieter, wilder fringe — stays open and comes alive with rain-fed green and fresh, unhurried tracks. This is Tadoba stripped of its crowds: a forest where the light falls softer, the undergrowth runs deeper, and every gate tells a slightly different story.
Known as the Jewel of Vidarbha, Tadoba Andhari Tiger Reserve holds one of India’s densest tiger populations, alongside leopards, dholes, sloth bears, gaur, and a wide-ranging cast of resident and migratory birds. In September, the buffer zones — Madnapur, Kolara, Bellara, Navegaon, Somnath, and Alizanja — offer six distinct windows into this world, each with its own terrain, its own rhythm, and its own light.
For a photographer, the monsoon buffer is a different kind of discipline. There is no manufactured drama here — only patience, fieldcraft, and a forest that rewards those willing to slow down and watch.

Our Tadoba Photography Tour is a small-group, mentorship-led expedition built around six exclusive safaris across six buffer gates. Travelling in privately reserved gypsies, you’ll be guided by experienced local naturalists and mentored in the field by Canon India Explorer Swaroop Singha Roy, sharpening both your technical craft and your instinct for reading the forest. Small groups mean more room in the jeep, more attention from your mentor, and more of the buffer to yourselves.
The Itinerary
Day 1 — Arrival & First Safari
Arrive in Nagpur, where you’ll be received and driven to Tadoba, a scenic 3–4 hour road transfer through the Vidarbha countryside. Check in at your resort and settle in over lunch. By afternoon, head out for your first safari — a first read of the terrain and the light. Return by evening for dinner and an opening photography discussion.
Day 2 — Two Gates, Two Moods
An early start for your morning safari at a fresh gate, chasing the low light that lingers longest through the monsoon canopy. Return to the resort for breakfast and rest through the heat of the day. In the afternoon, head to a second gate for your evening safari, watching the forest’s character shift as the light drops. Dinner and an evening photography discussion close the day.
Day 3 — Deeper into the Forest
Another dawn safari at a new gate, followed by a midday break back at the resort. The evening safari takes you further into the reserve, each gate offering its own mix of grassland, bamboo, and water’s edge. Return for dinner and a session working through the day’s strongest frames.
Day 4 — Final Safari & Departure
One last early safari — often the most rewarding light of the trip — before returning for breakfast and checkout. From here, it’s the drive back to Nagpur, arriving in good time for onward travel.
